Chargent Payment Console Documentation

Overview

AppFrontier always strives to provide features that lower your PCI compliance scope. Chargent's Payment Console feature further reduces your PCI scope by ensuring that when using tokenization and payment console protected card holder data is never stored in your Salesforce database.

Chargent Payment Processing for Salesforce’s Payment Console feature allows you to submit payments directly from a Salesforce modal (popup) window to your payment gateway. In addition to being a customizable, convenient interface for call center agents, customer service, billing or sales teams, it is able to initiate payments, receive tokens back from the payment gateway, and create transaction records in Salesforce.

Most importantly, with the Payment Console feature, transactions and tokens are created without ever saving or storing cardholder account number information in Salesforce.

Please Note: the Chargent Payment Console feature requires a Chargent Platform edition license. Please contact us for details.

How Payment Console Works

When a user clicks the “Payment Console” button in Salesforce, they get a new modal window like this:

All of the fields are editable, and their values are automatically populated from the Chargent fields in the Salesforce Opportunity, Case or Chargent Orders (custom) record. You can make changes in desired fields and click the “Save Billing Address” link to save any updated values to the Chargent Billing Address fields in Salesforce.

If you select the eCheck (ACH / Bank Transfer) payment method, the lower section of fields change as below, and the Authorize button is removed so only Charge is available.

Chargent Payment Console Custom Settings

With Chargent’s Payment Console feature, all Credit Card or eCheck (ACH / Bank Transfer) sensitive account number data goes directly to the payment gateway, and is never saved or stored in Salesforce. Only the transaction response, and a token from the payment gateway is stored in Salesforce.

In case of a successful transaction, you will see the following success message:

If an error occurs, the following message appears, with information as to the cause of the issue (if it was provided by the payment gateway):

Configuration

Like most Chargent features, Payment Console is highly customizable. Configuration options are available from the “Gateways” tab, on the gateway creation / configuration page, in the "Payment Console Configuration" section.

Chargent Payment Console Gateway Settings

Payment Console configuration options are divided into four fields in the Gateway record:

  1. Available Payment Methods
  2. Charge Amount
  3. Payment buttons
  4. Available Card Types

Available Payment Methods

In this section the available options are:

  • Credit Card
  • eCheck (ACH / Bank Transfer)

On the Payment Console window either or both (Credit Card and eCheck) sections will be presented, depending what options were chosen in the configuration.

Charge Amount

There are two configuration fields, Charge Amount Behavior and Static Charge Amount.

Charge Amount Behavior selects the source for the “amount” field value in the Payment Console. Possible options are:

  • Use Opportunity/Order/Case Charge Amount
  • Use Fixed Charge Amount From Gateway
  • Use Editable Amount

When “Use Opportunity/Order/Case Charge Amount” option is selected, the payment amount will be taken from the Charge Amount field on the Opportunity, Chargent Order, or Case record. The Amount field on the Payment Console window won’t be editable.

Chargent Payment Console Not Editable

“Use Fixed Charge Amount From Gateway” allows you to set an amount during the gateway record configuration, and the user won’t be able to change the amount in the Payment Console window, and it will not be pulled from the source Opportunity, Chargent Order or Case record Charge Amount field.

You set the “Static Charge Amount” field (section 2 on the gateway configuration page). “Static Charge Amount” is only used when “Use Fixed Charge Amount From Gateway” option is selected, and it only affects the Payment Console functionality, not the Amount or Charge Amount fields elsewhere in the Opportunity, Chargent Order or Case records.

To let a user manually enter the amount, select the “Use Editable Amount” option. This is the only setting where the Payment Console amount field will be editable by the user. The default value is taken from the Opportunity, Chargent Order or Case records.

Chargent Payment Console Editable

If “--None--” is selected in the “Charge Amount Behavior” dropdown field, the amount field will act the same as “Use Editable Amount” option.

Payment buttons

The Show Authorize Button checkbox enables the “Authorize” button on the Payment Console window. The Authorize button works the same way as the Opportunity, Chargent Order or Case record button.

Chargent Payment Console with Charge Button

The Show Charge Button checkbox enables the “Charge” button on the pop-up page. Charge button works the same way, as the Opportunity, Chargent Order or Case record button.

Chargent Payment Console with Authorize Button

You can select both Charge and Authorize buttons, or just one of the buttons to appear in the Payment Console.

The Show Create/Update Token Button checkbox enables a button for simply creating or updating tokens on the pop-up page, with no authorization holds or authorization and captures taking place. If a token is present in the source record, the button in the payment console dynamically changes from Register Token to Update Token.

Available Card Types

In this section the available options are:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Discover
  • MC Eurocard
  • UK Maestro
  • JCB Card
  • Electron

Select the types of credit cards your company wishes to accept. If a particular card type is not selected in the gateway configuration, Payment Console will display an error message when a credit card number of that type is entered: "Sorry, we don't accept {card_type}"

Require CVV in Payment Console

Checking this field in the Gateway settings will require the use of a CVV / CVV2 / Security Code in the Payment Console. This is the 3 digit code on the back of Visa and Mastercards, and the 4 digit code on the front of American Express cards. By default we recommend checking this field to require the information when new cards are entered in the Payment Console.

Update Page Layout

After you have configured the Payment Console settings, the last step is to add the Payment Console button to the Opportunity, Case, or Chargent Order page layout. This is the button that users will click to make the Payment Console window pop up.
